Worth upgrading fx8320 (@4.4ghz) to i7 6700k and cost?

Initially wondering if an i7 6700k & Asus Maximus VIII for £320 worth it? The MB is brand new, and the CPU is barely used in the box.

I've been away from the hardware scene for a couple years now and have been using an fx-8320 (overclocked to 4.4ghz) so not too sure what the cost of used newer items are?

Also will this be a worthwhile upgrade to a 6700k from an oc'ed 8320?

My usage is some basic video editing, photoshop work, multiple VM's, and SQL databases with multiple instances of an application that runs on top. Also will be a gaming machine for sure.

Thats not all you will need to upgrade. You also have to upgrade ram Since that board runs DDR4 I believe. and most cost effective I7 6700K dont have coolers with them. Just food for thought. But to answer your original question. Yes upgrade. the processor is amazing in comparison. I just recently upgraded from an FX 8150 BE that was oc'd to almost 4.8 and the difference is drastic. but that is almost an entire overhaul of your PC. 3 main components have to be replaced.

The i7 at 4ghz will smoke the AMD. Even at 4.4ghz its performance is not that great unless the program is using all 8 cores correctly. The i7 is only a quad core but each core is VERY strong. Apps that are threaded correctly will use hyperthreading which can give the i7 a decent performance boost over a comparable i5. I would do it if you have the money.

If you dont want to spend the money and your system is performing how you want it to, why bother?

I personally run a 4790k at 4ghz (and 4.7ghz sometimes) and it handles everything I throw at it.

Well i figured as I've got some big costs coming up over the next few years (house, kids, another car etc....) that I'd upgrade my computer now while I have the chance. My system is performing decently I can't really complain but Im assuming if I get this i7 it will last well over 5 years. My brother is still using an i7 950 (which pretty much still matches my 8320) so hoping this has the same longevity?

My other big one was if the price is worth it at £320 for both the MB & CPU?

Glad to hear that is still true of the urrent generation of i7's

Yes i was trying to keep it simple down to just see if the cost of the components was worth it. I realize I will have to buy some DDR4 ram. And in my research seems like the Hyper 212 i have is an acceptable upgrade over anything that would come with it anyways.
Thanks thats sort of what I was hoping to hear in terms of the performance, I think I will go for the upgrade and be content that I can run it for a long time with only GPU upgrades.

Thanks, and to everyone else who replied. I used to be an Intel guy all the way until my P4 550, then switched to AMD. Hoping that my experience switching back is as great as yours.
