What is normal idle memory usage? (Mine's 50%)

I have one chrome tab open on Windows 10 and am sitting at 49% used memory with 8Gb Ram. I've disabled many startup processes, disabled malwarebytes and I'm frustrated it's so high. I've already ordered another 8Gb Ram because I can barely run a game without it exiting from saying "memory too low exiting application".

40-50% is about right. 8 GB is not much at all. you have to take into account background processes, things like antivirus, adobe, java.

Windows 10 has a feature called memory compression. It keeps a lot more stuff in memory so it is readily available.

As long as you aren't hitting 8GB and using a swap file and the computer is running as you want, everything is fine.

I am currently using about 2.2GB of ram with 22 tabs open (I know) in Chrome and Comodo Dragon. Suggest you;

1. Check your start up items. You probably have many programs running that you are unaware of.

2. Tap on the "Memory" heading in task manager to show which programs are using the most memory. There may be a problem with one.

So I discovered the solution. It's hovering 39-40% now and I had forgotten on my Samsung 840 EVO SSD I had "Rapid Mode" Enabled, it apparently adds 10% memory useage to my system. I don't notice much difference without it.
