Yes, you can run After Effects.
It will be 'faster'. There is no specific number of 'fast'.

It is a good drive, but...

Using it as an external through USB is limiting its speed.
Ideally, you use that SSD for your OS and applications, rather than just a cache drive for AE.

It is 'faster' than having the cache on your HDD, but you are missing out on a lot of the benefit of the SSD.

Yep.
1) Put that into your case. Make sure it's the best 6Gbps connector if there's a choice.

2) drive letter may change, so modify Adobe as applicable

3) install and run Samsung Magician as well, possibly enable the "Rapid Cache", and benchmark it (don't benchmark if Rapid Cache is enabled).

Other:
How much faster it works is hard to say, but there will be times when it's mainly a CPU bottleneck. You may need to have ALL of your working files on the SSD to see the best benefit.

Other:
Another way to go might be to CLONE your HDD to SSD, then move files around so you end up with:

a) 150GB (SSD Part#1)- Windows, apps
b) 300GB approx (SSD Part#2)- for Adobe files
c) 1TB HDD - c-drive image backup, other data/media

The above may be a bit CONFUSING at first so maybe stick with the SSD just for the working files for now, then plan out the CLONE transfer carefully.

It MAY make sense to get another SSD in the future and have some things on one SSD, and other things on the second SSD (like reading from one and writing to another).

For now, just make sure your SSD is running properly, internally, and that the working files are on the SSD not the HDD.

*They mention getting an SSD which is great, but then why the he77 do they mention using two hard drives? The optimal setup would not use a hard drive at all.

I guess that's for when the files are so LARGE that an SSD is too costly.

Right. I have a smallish SSD (120GB), solely as a dedicated scratch space for Lightroom and Corel VideoStudio.
OS an applications live on the main SSD.
Files are written to yet another SSD.

You should upgrade your graphics card if you want to play the latest games.

Don't get the gtx 980. Get the 970 instead if you care about your money.
