How do I modify a mini PWM 4 pin to fit a full size 4 pin PWM connection?

So I have reason to believe my CPU fan is gone since my motherboard keeps telling CPU fan error and I can look inside and see the thing isn't moving I also suspect the motherboard's onboard fan controller is going since it either can't manage the fan speeds anymore or all the fans are going and thats a total of 4 chassis fans which seem to continue to run regardless of the CPU fan's problem.

I bought this fan controller http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811992005

But found out later it can't fit mini PWM connectors without cutting part of the connector and I've spent over $100 dollars already on the fan controller and cpu fan and rush order/overnight cause I need them asap.

So my question is how do I modify the connector to fit and is it safe to do so?

Oh I also purchased this fan. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181039&ignorebbr=1 to replace the cpu fan on my Hyper Evo 212. I tried to monitor the fan speeds on chassis and cpu fans in CMOS but they seemed low I tried also to look at the voltages and they all seemed fine however the computer froze soon after displaying the numbers but that's a old problem I've had with the Crosshair V Formula's CMOS.

Also I was wondering if it's safe to plug my CPU Cooler's fan into a 4 pin PWM port other then CPU Fan port which it is currently hooked into. The motherboard is a ASUS Crosshair V Formula running the 990FX chipset and the CPU Cooler is a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo and the default fan that came with it.v Cause if I can plug the CPU fan into another port and make it work I can cancel the fan I already ordered and recoup some of my money.

Your MB has two cpu_fan headers, you can try other one, because you have to plug the cpu cooler fan into either cpu_fan header, otherwise the pc will tell you the pc has not cup cooler fan and can't boot.
If you think the MB fan header has problem, may try update the chipset http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/chipset?os=Windows%208%20-%2032 or even the BIOS too, that will make sure there is not the driver problem.

For the fan controller, because the fan has 4 pin only, you have to buy the 4 pin to 3 pin adapter for using the fan with the fan controller. But again if you use that fan for the hyper 212 cooler, you have to plug it into the MB cpu_fan header.
