Computer lag after 15-17 GB of downloading a large game

While I am downloading a game, such as GTA V or Battlefield 4, I get around 15 to 17 GB into the download and my computer starts to lag profusely. I then proceed to restart my computer and restart the download after I log back into windows. I would like to find a solution to this problem. I think it could be the ram because I notice that the percentage used rises after a while of downloading. If it is ram, then what would be the solution to the problem. Thanks in advance

What percentage of ram usage are you hitting while downloading? How many GB of ram do you have?

I have 8 GB of ram and it is using around 50% when the download is going on.

My motherboard is the MSI Gaming Intel Z97 LGA 1150 DDR3 USB 3.1 ATX Motherboard (Z97 Gaming 5), my CPU is the i7 4790k, and I have 8 GB of DDR3 1600 MHz ram

Are you downloading to a conventional drive or SSD, are the OS, games, apps all on the smae drive?

I have an SSD that my OS and some of my games are on. I have experienced this lag when I was downloading to my hard drive and maybe my SSD, I can't remember for sure.

Wondering if the drive is getting overloaded between the download and using apps, the OS, etc if using same drive

Well now the task manager is saying that it is using 80% of my ram. I have been downloading a large game to use as tests and I think that it is definitely a ram related problem.

No worries

If the drive or SSD is getting a good load and you have a good download feed the DRAM is in effect holding the data till it can write it to the drive

That would probably help, with big downloads I tend to run them overnight while I'm sleeping whenever I can
