I am having fits with my Raid one..again. I did a format as per AMD on a drive. It almost started the migration but when it hit the second mark on progress it PUKED big time.

This was due to an array failure or drive.
I would like to try and format the drives, I have two WD Blacks which are supposed top dog, they match what came with the system. I did a format with a 2.0 USB as it fought with the primary drive when I tried internally. I have USB 3.0 available. Is there a 3.0 USB to SATA transfer kit available to try?

Solution

You will have to delete all partitions on the disk first, to get rid of the RAID-MBR and change the bios to AHCI.

I am wondering about a different approach. I created a rescue disk to boot from.
When I tried to re-format my "bad drive" all I got was BSOD.
My thought if I pull my primary drive out, boot with the rescue disk, re-install the bad HD , can I get to where I can re-format as an individual drive. Also do I need to change the bios from Raid to IDE or the other choice which escapes me now to be able to format this disk?

Is my original premise correct above about securing my working drive , removing it from the mother board and connecting the bad drive and doing the format from a bootable disk I made?

Also how do you go about removing the partitions? I thought formatting the drive would do that?
And the bios change to AHCI should be done before connecting the bad drive back up?
