Hello. I've recently upgraded my memory from 3 to 4 gigs using a 1gb memory stick, it's a DIMM 5300 GoodRam stick.

After putting it in and booting, the system didn't register a difference - under the 'system' tab it's still 3 gigabytes. Same in the BIOS settings - 3 gigs. I swapped the sticks around in various combinations, but it still seems that it's stuck on 3 gigabytes. I am using windows 7 x64, so the system lock on ram is not possible. Any help is appreciated.

Solution
If a single slot doesn't work on a 4 slot, then it's usually the slot itself that's bad, the 4th slot is normally shared with the third as a single channel (normally B channel with A channel being slots 1-2). Could try blowing it out with compressed air, but if bad, not a lot you can do

Does it even work by itself? Try that as the only stick of DRAM in the computer, it may not be compatible, it may be bad, May just not want to play with the other DRAM (mixing is not a good idea,m no guarantees they will play nice) If it doesn't work let us know CPU, mobo and model of the DRAM.

I just checked - the stick is fine, works in any but the fourth port. Same with each other stick. It seems that the slot is faulty, is it possible to fix on my own or do I have to buy a new mobo?

Yup, seems like it. I tried blowing it out and doing all kinds of combinations but nothing worked. I'll wait till I get a new rig since my other components are too old to make buying a new mobo worth it. Thanks for assistance!
