Hey guys,

Looking to upgrade all but my monitor (1360x768) and PSU (Antec High current gamer 400w)

I really want to play Total War Warhammer in a couple months, current system runs horribly on other total war games (Rome 2). I'm not looking to max out the graphics but i do want to play comfortably (smooth/high FPS) with some level of detail.

I figure this build works pretty well http://www.ebuyer.com/lists/F816301CE135E42A624EDD596E10D9F7 but I don't know what GPU to go with. Would a GTX 750 Ti be sufficient? Or GTX 950 is better?

I'd likely be playing at around high (as opposed to Very High or Ultra) on my 1360x768 monitor, is this potential set up enough? Where else could my savings be made?

Thanks guys!

If you're keeping that resolution, you might actually be okay to keep the 550ti. But I would definitely recommend going to the 750ti if you plan on getting a better monitor or if you just want better graphics setting like you said.

Yeah, I'd definitely believe that the i3-6100 could go toe-to-toe with the FX 6300 in single threaded applications (like most games), and it gets a solid recommendation from me. However, I believe you can dodge around having to change out your whole platform. The LGA775 platform isn't quite dead yet. Some high-end Core 2 Quads are popping up on EBay in the $30US range. If you invest in a Q6600 or something similar, you could overclock the snot out of it and probably play games on it quite comfortably. Throw...

Throw in another 4GB of RAM for a total of 8, along with the 750ti and you'd have a very decent gaming machine.

Conclusion: The i3 and 750ti are both solid choices and I think you could build a decent gaming rig that will last you quite a while. But if you're good with overclocking, you can save quite a bit of money here.

No problem! Glad to help.

There are plenty of forums on this site and on overclock.net. If you do your homework, it's not rocket science and it's a great way to save some cash. Just google what the absolute maximum temperature and voltage is for your CPU and make sure you stay under it. I've never killed anything by overclocking, even when I was just starting off. And even if you do brick your PC, you were ready to buy a new motherboard and CPU anyways. Lol

Best of luck :)
