Hi. I'm sorry if this has been asked and answered, but I've been looking through the forums for about an hour now with no luck.

My desktop computer is about 5-6 years old. I recently purchased a Samsung Evo 850 SSD and installed it in my computer. I followed the tutorial on here for a fresh/clean install and booted it from a usb and it works great. It's a lot faster than the old drive.

My desktop tower has three slots for hard drives. The old hard drive is in the first spot. I put the SSD in the second spot. To hook it up, I simply unplugged the old hard drive and put those plugs into the new one. So the old hard drive is still in the computer, just not hooked up to anything.

I understand I can use the old hard drive for storage. All my old files and junk are still on it. All I have on this new drive is windows and chrome internet browser. My question is, If I plug the old hard drive in back at the same time as the new one, will the hard drives, for a lack of better terms, be confused as to which one is primary? I want the ssd to be the primary C drive, and the old hard drive just as a storage drive. I don't know what will happen if they're both connected if there will be some kind of issue.

So basically, do I just plug the old hard drive in and it will know it's no longer the C drive? Or will it try to take back over again as primary and conflict with the ssd? I'm new to all this, so I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, just don't want to do any damage. I appreciate any help. Thanks guys.

Solution
heres how it works...

ur ssd is ur c drive now because rite now its the only drive connected with windows on it...that means ur bios detects only one drive as of now...
when u connect ur hdd, ur bios will detect two drives...
but if ur hdd has windows installed on it, bios wont know which one to boot from unless u arrange them in order...
so...wat u need to do is...
enter bios and go to the relevant tab where it says boot device priority...
and u have to set the ssd as the boot/primary drive and hdd as the secondary drive...

i am assuming that since u r calling the hdd as ur c drive, it might have windows installed on it...
its better u format it for secondary storage...
