quietest cpu cooler for RS780 mobo x4 805 processor 250 ghz

100 canadian or more.
Runs quiet while gaming.
gateway dx 4300

what type of mobo is that so I can look for myself? i dont know what socket I need.

I already bought a quiet psu.

I looked at some photos of the DX4300 motherboard and it looks like it uses the standard Socket AM3 mounting scheme. The Noctua NH-U9B SE2 is the quietest cooler I could find for that socket, only reaching 17.6 dB at full fan speed. Good luck finding it though, seems to be out of stock at most Canadian e-tailers I checked :/

It's a socket AM2. Not really sure what will fit on it since its an OEM board.
Full description (I think) is Gateway DX4300 Acer Aspire M1201 Foxconn Bengal RS780 Motherboard 4006272R

or do you think id be better off just buying some 2x4 ddr2 memory to replace my 4x2?

I think a push configuration would be best, but you I'd recommend testing it both ways to find out. You should be able to remove and replace the fan off the cooler without having to remove the cooler itself.

4GB sticks of DDR2 are ludicrously expensive for some reason (rarity maybe?) so I would absolutely recommend against swapping out your RAM.

I wouldn't bother replacing the memory. DDR2 is horribly expensive to get now a days and the single fan should give you enough cooling for what you're trying to do.
