Greetings Tom's,

It's been a while since I upgraded a CPU on a laptop, and I am working on a Asus K40IE (specifically the Asian variant A41I, but still the same setup). Currently onboard is a T6570 2.1 GHz Intel Core2Duo from the Penryn family at 800 MHz FSB.

The CPU in this laptop is real easy to get to, and the end user wanted me to add RAM, so I wanted to check what's the optimum CPU I can get in there.

If it takes 1066 MHz SDRAM, can I put in a 1066 MHz processor instead of 800 MHz FSB? If it helps I can post the BIOS version on this laptop, or if I'm stuck at the Core 2 Extreme x9000 at 2.8 GHz (referring to this list over at CPU-Upgrade.com).

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!
VV5

Socket P, not to be confused with the other PGA478. Same socket does not mean it's compatible and even same FSB does not mean bios will be compatible. They don't publish cpu support list for laptops and you can try to contact asus but usually laptop cpu upgrades are a "try at your own expense." You should be warned that a higher power cpu will create more heat so may overheat and more power that the powerbrick may not be able to supply.
