Brand New Laptop - Slow download but fast upload? HELP

I bought a Lenova Aspire E15 (E5-574) the other day and I'm getting extremely low download speeds. I have a 75/75 Fios Internet Connection and my two desktops attain those speeds. However, this laptop is running at max download 6mbs on the speedtest site I use. Mostly between 1 and 2mbs. The upload speed is high as you can see in the image @ 35mbs.

I checked the power settings and its set to maximum performance. I've removed all the bloatware from the computer to the best of my knowledge. Its an Intel System so it doesn't have the AMD Quickstream that I have read about slowing download speeds. Have used windows update and everything has been installed from that. Additionally, I downloaded Acer Care Center to ensure all drivers where up to date.

This is my speed on the laptop when I plug it in directly:

WTF??? Seriously.

System basics:
Intel i5 @ 2.3GHz
6gb Ram
1TB HDD

I also have FiOS 75/75, and during this last install, I asked the installer guy about this specifically.
They won't even start to diagnose WiFi issues unless there is direct line of sight between router and PC, in the same room.

This is from my Asus Transformer, WiFi in the same room as the FiOS router. About 15 feet away.

How far away from your router are you? Laptop built in Wifi isn't the greatest, and are you connected to a 2.4Ghz band or 5Ghz band? What material are the walls and floors of your house made of? Concrete kills wifi like a truck kills a smartcar.

Confused...

You verified it works fast with ETHERNET and slow with Wi-Fi.

That means you need a better wi-fi adapter for the laptop.

*I believe the DOWNLOAD is so low because the wi-fi adapter isn't receiving the signal really well. The UPLOAD stays high because the ROUTER has a good receiver in it.

If you haven't, try the laptop with direct line-of-sight to the router and see how that changes the numbers.

(my best guess, though the numbers do seem too low for a new laptop. I get over 30Mbps down two floors with a cheap USB wi-fi adapter).

I am in the same room as the router. Right beside it!

Wireles is a Qualcomm Atheros QCA9377 Wireless Network Adapter

Okay, I'd say either it's defective which seems unlikely or the upload should be affected too, or there's some software glitch though I can't think what.

You need a different wi-fi device as well to confirm the ROUTER is properly receiving signals. We confirmed it can SEND them fine.

I'm gonna second the new adapter thing. My HP has wireless that's worthless, I use it for work, and it has trouble connecting anywhere I go, put a 10$ adapter in it and it's been beautiful ever since. The built in wifi adapters in laptops are usually a joke, and you can get a USB adapter that's halfway decent for a fairly low amount of money, it will save you a headache in the long run, and it's always good to have a backup in case like in your case, the internal sux.

I'm having the exact same problem and think it's related to the Windows10 OS. I ran an hour long Windows update and that seemed...accepting all the updates, but it's still too slow...but speedtest.net did hit 20 Mbps a few times...still think something isn't right, but that helped some...but it's a real crappy way to receive a new computer and Acer Help was useless. ..thinking about reloading the thing to Windows 7..

I don't recommend using W7. W10 will continue to get better, and there's no guarantee W7 won't have its own issues, especially as time goes on and support for it wanes.

Also, as a new computer you may even lose some laptop-specific features though for most people it's not a big issue. For example, some keys are linked to the screen through added software which you'd wipe off going to W7.

*One interesting thing to try is get a modern Linux distro like the latest Linux Mint, burn to a USB thumb drive then boot to it (may have to go into the BIOS and boot directly or change boot order so USB is first).

You can then see if their default drivers work any different.

This way you aren't installing anything.

Just incase anyone has Verizon Fios what worked for me is using Fios Connection Optimizer. Downloaded. Ran it. Speeds are where they should be! Thanks for all the feedback everyone!

Interesting. I had not heard of that thing from them.

Me neither, but it configures the computers wi-fi settings so obviously he had one or more settings incorrect.
