I have a new 4TB WD Red which I have just added to my Windows 7 system. It prompted for a partitioning scheme and I entered GPT. However it shows the Disk as only having 1.678 TB available.

I have checked the partitioning in Disk Management and it shows a single GPT partition with these 1.678 TB.

I also have a 3TB Toshiba HDD in the same system which correctly shows the full capacity.

Apparently this is related to the Intel drivers?

"Found out what's causing the probem.

It's the Intel Matrix Storage Manager. Once I've uninstalled it W7/DISLPART/etc see the whole 4TB."

**I'd first try updating the Intel software-> http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/detect.html?iid=dc_iduu

If that doesn't work, look for the same program as above in add/remove programs, or similar and hopefully that helps.

I believe you still want GPT->

a) Delete volumes (unallocated space is all)
b) GPT
c) format as NTFS

If that works fine, I'd then reformat but choose a FULL NTFS format instead of quick to let it build the bad sector table. That...

If there's no data, then simply delete all partitions (volumes) from within Disk Management and then format as NTFS.

update:
I'm not clear on how GPT works exactly, but I checked and my 4TB drive is formatted as NTFS and works just fine. I thought you would support a 4TB HDD as a secondary drive using GPT.

GPT is a better way to format (see link). You need UEFI motherboard supports if the boot drive is GPT, again not sure what the deal is for your situation. I wouldn't worry too much about it though.

Other:
may want to consider Windows 10 while it's still free (til July 29th I think).

Hello,
do you have solved this problem?
I just bought a 4TB WD Red for replacing my broken old Maxtor DiamondMax22 (it was my backup disk), I have windows 7 PRO and my mobo is an ASUS P5Q-E and I'm encountering the same problem: the OS can see only one disc with just one partition (1678GB).
How must I do to fix the problem and get all the 4TB working right?
