So I recently bought a 980ti (HOF) and for some reason my fps in most games are very low when on ultra settings (1080p) witcher 3 runs at around 35-40 assassins creed syn runs around 26-35 while most to all benchmarks I have seen from the internet its suppoused to get around 58-65 avg in these games and only less so on 4K which I don't use,

my specs
cpu: I5 4690k
Gpu: 980ti Hof
ram: 16Gb Kingston
mobo: msi H81m P33
Psu: Kingston 750w

Solution

install msi afterburner

turn on temp monitoring for the cpu and gpu

as well as core speed for the gpu and cpu ( make sure they are running at their rated speed and not stuck on low power )

also make sure you have not enabled super resolution

play a game for a while, then post back with...

do you have max performance set on the nvidia panel?

also you can install the valley benchmark, set to extreme hd then run it

https://unigine.com/products/benchmarks/valley/

post back your score

Hey,

A lot of benchmarks that say "ULTRA" may have some feature disabled. For example, do you have EVERYTHING at max such as the Hairworks stuff?

THIS benchmark is ultra (at 1920x1200) and gets 76FPS average though Hairworks is OFF. They also give a link to the exact settings used.
http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/nvidia-geforce-gtx-980-ti-review,15.html

I think the link only shows AO at medium instead of max. (SSAO not HBAO)

FPS will also vary between parts of the map.

The thing is though i dony expect it to run at 70 or 90 but a decent 50 would be expected but it goes as low as 28 and i dont mean asin a min i mean it jumps between 28 and about 61 constintly dark souls atm on full settings runs at 18-25 fps this is like a bar way below what is expected

Other:
repeatable built-in game benchmarks are a much better indicator of whether there's a major issue with your hardware/driver setup. Like Tomb Raider, Metro etc but again you must use the EXACT same settings.

Unigine Valley:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=748m6SH1bcw

It's mainly GPU so should be very good to compare (no CPU score added). Settings used were:

- 1920x1080
- extreme HD
- 8xMSAA

GPU reported was: 1569MHz

Total score was: 3814 (FPS avg 91.2)

*Thus, if things are working you should be within 5% once you correct for the GPU:

1) (your reported GPU freq in Unigine)/1569MHz

2) Multiply that by 91.2FPS

Let's say your card is 90% the frequency. Your FPS should end up as about 82FPS (plus or minus 4FPS probably).

Hmmm...
It's hard to tell from here, but you could try a clean install of the video drivers:

1) DDU-> http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html
then
2) install latest NVidia drivers. Choose the custom-> Clean option (during install) to reset everything

*I suggest running the Unigine Valley benchmark first to see if your score changes. Again, keep exact same settings:
https://unigine.com/products/benchmarks/valley/

Other:
Your CPU is probably fine, but verify it using Task Manager and running Prime95. Change the Performance-> CPU graph to show all cores (four), then verify you hit the approximate min Turbo value once P95 starts up.

At default settings that's probably about 3.7GHz. (look under the graphs, should say "speed" and if Speed Step is on it drops low automatically in idle/light usage.)

I installed the card today and made sure there is no internal problem reinstalling drivers now

after reinstalling drivers and updating to newest version I got a score of 2650 which is better but still not as good as I'd expect it to be

Hmmm...

1) Verify the GPU frequency when running Unigine (Google

2) Verify the CPU frequency when running Prime95 (and change to show all graphs in Task Manager to confirm FOUR cores running)
- should be perhaps 3.6GHz under load or so

3) Ensure POWER connectors are secure to the graphics card.

So...
If Unigine score is too low, that means the GPU should show a lot lower than normal. Thus either the CPU is running too slow and not feeding it, or more likely some issue like lack of power or some card glitch is causing the GPU to throttle down.

A score that low is probably closer to 500 or 600MHz, so may be stuck in an IDLE mode for some reason?

So after running afterburner i realised my cpu was running at a constant 100° C which caused my mobo to throttle my cpu and in return throtteled my gpu, after replacing cpu fan and making sure everything is fine all fps problems went away scored 3800 in unigine

Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions went through allot of trouble just to realise it was my cpu...

glad you got it sorted

though I did mention monitoring cpu temps in my first post
