Should I buy a better CPU to get a less performance GPU?

Hi everybody,

I'm going to finally realize my dream and build my first gaming computer. My budget is 750 euro and I can't decide which configuration to buy.

What I have in mind is:
-Intel i5 6400;
-Asrock B150 PRO4;
-NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 4GB;
-Corsair VS650 650W;
-HyperX Fury 2x4gb DDR4 Black;
-WD Caviar blue 1Tb;
-Case Corsair CC-9011075-W.

However another user on another forum suggested this one:
-AMD FX-8320;
-Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P/Rev 2.0 Motherboard Black;
-XFX R9 390 8GB DD;
-Kingston HyperX Fury DDR3 8 GB, 2x4GB;
-Corsair VS550 550W;
-WD Caviar blue 1Tb;
-Case Corsair CC-9011075-WW.

The price of the first one is 710 euros and the second one is 762 and I'm not quite sure what to do. Is it better to spend more to have a more powerful GPU, but less powerful CPU and also RAM or spend lett and have a better CPU, better RAM and an average GPU?
I hope you can help and please feel free to even suggest other configurations. The budget is 750 and not a single euro more, I will buy everything on Amazon.it. Thank you.

So I guess you're telling me to go for the less powerful GPU. Can you tell me why you picked this GPU instead of the GTX 960? Is the difference that big? And also, considering that this one is only 25 euros less that the R9 390, should I consider to spend more than my budget? Thanks

A gtx 970 is WAY better than a gtx 960

What would you suggest between the MSI GTX 960 Gaming 4G, MSI GTX 960 4GD5T OC, Sapphire VGA Radeon R9 380, ora any other GPU that would help me stay under 700 or little more? And also would that be too bad to go with the b150 PRO4s instead of the H170 PRO4s?

--650 watts is more than enough, especially for an Intel/Nvidia build because they are both more power efficient than AMD processor and graphics cards.
--As for the original question, if you plan on playing games or general use on this computer, the Intel Processor will be much better. The AMD will perform considerably faster if you are using special programs that use or require use of "multiple threads" or multiple processors such as video encoding/editing , Photoshop, Analytical processing, or heavy programming but for everyday use and gaming performance the AMD will be of lower performance.
--Also I would highly recommend swapping the power supplies of both builds, the Intel would work well with the 550w and the AMD would require more power and thus be paired with the 650w.
--Almost forgot to mention that , GPU for gaming is much more important than the CPU. There are articles on this website that prove the performance using multiple parts.

hahaha the thing is that I can spend 750, but I would rather spend around 700. I just want to see what I get for 700 and what I can get for 750. It would be good to have the 750, but maybe for what I have to do 700 is enough.
I mean I've always played on consoles from the ps1 to the ps4, I think that I don't need that much to be impressed.

I will be using the PC only for gaming and general thing that do not require that much power, although maybe in the future I will be using Photoshop and other programs related to graphic because next year I will be studying that in college.

for gaming if you just want playable fps at good settings get a gtx 950 its a weaker card than a 960 but its cheaper by a good amount if you went for a 950 you could get a amd fx 8320 and save some money as a overclocked 8320 can compare to the 6400 or you even could get a amd fx 6300 with that gpu and later get a cheap used fx 8350 or 8370 i think a fx 6300 and a gtx 950 would be a bit below 650 euros maybe even below 600 euros which i would then take some extra money and get a nice good quality cooler for overclocking the cpu and get a LOT of proformace for the price of that cpu

i understand what you mean the reason im suggesting it is because its lots cheaper than a i5 system and overclockable

what GPU would you put in this configuration and stay at 700 or less? http://it.pcpartpicker.com/p/ctLkvK
Would you do any other change?

try use a SSD for OS and most run hardware. so the size is depending how much stuff you want to install.
even tho i'm not a Intel fan. but Intel is winning the war for now. so go for the i5.
unless you alrdy have a AMD motherboard. why would you go for the old FX? unless you want to wait for Zen. don't go for AMD.

For the Video card. I like the R9 myself. Unless you are getting the top top end stuff from Nvidia i think AMD work better as in price. (by the way. why not wait for a few months for the next gen polaris GPU? it should be out in the Summer. which is in the conner alrdy. : )

just for the truth. with one gpu it doesn't matter if you want AMD or intel as your CPU. but since the i5 is using DDR4. and FX is using DDR3. I won't go for the FX today as a new build.
don't get me wrong. I have a FX8350 myself. It is a very reliable CPU. it takes everything I through at it like walk in a park. and it working better with the DX12 too. but still. it is a 5 years old CPU. and the thing with AMD. unless you have a lot of time and want to learn how to OC and play around with setting and drivers. you should just go for the i5.
