this only happened once and randomly too. i turned on my computer and was idle for about 5 min. i then turned it off and then it made a screeching sound. my friend said it was the watercooling pump, but i only hear a gargling noise when the pump has an air bubble and not a screech. if it were to be my fan then it would make a screeching sound while idle, not when it turns off, unless it does it when powering down. this sound only happened for a quick second but it was definitely noticeable. what do you guys think it is? my hard drive on crystaldiskinfo says it is in good condition and no errors or caution things.

Solution

Take a close look inside, and see if any cables are really, really close to a fan.
But if it doesn't happen again, it is hard to diagnose.

Don't stress until or if it happens again.

i dont think it would because why would it happen right when i turned it off? if the fan caught a cable then it would continuously be making the sound. also ive never heard this until that one split second.

i think wires would make like a noise when u put something in a fan and it makes that continuous clunk noise. i dont think it would screech.

A cable just barely contacting a fan might indeed make a 'screech'.

In any case, it would seem to be a moving part. A faulty fan, a cable touching a spinning fan, possibly but unlikely a hard drive.

yes. i highly doubt it would be my hard drive because everything is in good condition. according to crystaldiskinfo. i assume it might be my radiator fan, or my case fan. hopefully not my radiator fan because it's a pain to replace one with my case. or it could also be my gpu fan, if it is im going to buy the new nvidia pascal gpus

only once. i havent turned my pc on again because i was late to school. never ever happened before until that second my pc turned off. maybe when my gpu fan was slowing down, it made a screeching sound because u know when something may slow down and it will make a screeching noise? for example like a bike wheel grinding against the brake when going slow. this gpu is 3 years old and gpu fan speed was on 80% for a long time so i would assume it would be the bearing wearing out over time.

Okay I will see what I can do. I will report back if it still happens.
