On my.GPU there are 8 pin and 6 pin things. My psu says it's 6x2 GPU header. Am I gonna need to just plug in a 6 pin header to my GPU. Or does my power supply need an 8 pin header also so both things on my GPU will be used.
Usually there are a 6 pin connector and on the same cable there are an extra 2 pins you can add to the 6 pin, and if there are none maybe you have picked a powersupply that is not rated for the gpu you have picked.
You need to connect both PCI-E power plugs on your graphics card.
If your card has a 6-pin and an 8-pin connector, it likely draws more than 225W (e.g. Radeon R9 390 draws 275W).
Make sure you card card can supply at least 40A or 480W on the +12V rails.
If it only has 2 x 6-pin PCI-E connectors, this is likely not the case.

Wait so my card has two connectors. An 8 pin and 6 pin. Do I just plug in one connector like for example, if I just plug in a 6 pin connector but not the eight pin cuz im not sure my psu has an 8 pin, will it work

I forgot to mention I'm getting the gtx 970 gigabyte , the one that's $339. Not sure wat my psu is but it's 750 watt

The Supernova B2 750 is rated at 62A on the +12V rail and has 4 x 6+2-pin PCI-E connectors. It is good quality and more than enough for your card.
You started the thread with "My psu says it's 6x2 GPU header." I'm not sure where you read this, because it is not accurate for the PSU you have listed.
