Can't install GPU because of metal bar

I recently bought a MSI GTX960 and I tried to install it into my PCI 16 slot but there was a metal bar blocking it so it couldn't fit, I'm not sure if it's needed and all I know is it is connected to something on one end and to the case on the other. Anyone know what it is and if it's safe to remove? I'm not too sure how to remove it from what it's connected to but it's connected to the case with rivets.

(I'm a huge newbie at this, first time installing a GPU)

I may only be me in the early morning but having edite dyour links to make them live, I can't see very much. One pic is of the hard disk carrier which is on the front of the case whereas the cards fit in the back and the other pic is more thumb than PC.

Surely you can't mean the bar that allows the card's connectors through the bak of the case? That's removeable with one screw.
