So I just bought some RAM to upgrade my PC. Before I had 2x 4GB RAM that ran 1600 and now I just bought 2x 4GB RAM that run at 2400. I get them installed and booted up my computer. Once booted I check via CMD by typing "wmic memorychip get speed" and it shows

Speed
1600
1600

So I'm assuming that I don't need to do anything, but CPU-Z shows the DRAM frequency at 805.3 MHz and the NB Frequency at 2214.4 MHz, and if I remember correctly, you multiply the DRAM freq by 2 to get you answer (which in this case would be 1610) which has made me confused.

Is my RAM running at 2400 or do I need to go fix it in the BiOS?

Solution
With your CPU, 1600 is about the best you'll run (and CPU-Z shows true freq (800) take that times 2 for the effective data rate (1600), so you are pretty much spot on ;)

1600, and good luck getting your first set up to the 2400 speed. Components run at the rate of the slowest ones. 2400 RAM can run from 1133 all the way up to 2400 possibly further than 2400, but 1600 is rated for 1600. Possibly further, but again I'm not entirely sure you'd be able to overclock your RAM a full 800MHz.

So would it be really worth it? I'm just doing it to get a little more FPS on some games. Dark Souls 3 runs at 60 - 40 fps on Max on my pc (Using a GTX 970 with a AMD FX running at 4.2Ghz)

FX what? Cause my 6100 is running at 4.23, but if you have an 83xx running at 4.2 that's a significant difference.

As for the FPS, it's not going to matter. Not on an FX CPU. FPS is largely independent from RAM speed in gaming.

@genthug it's a AMD FX 4350 Vishera, and I know RAM does very minimal effect towards video games. I'm just wondering cause I already have it and I might as well use it to its fullest

OK so last question before I close it. I want to change the Cas Latency to 9-9-9-24 and I need to know how much voltage I should be putting in my DRAM. It was on auto, but when I took it off, it was on 1.510V and the DDR VVT control was on 0.750V

Yes I did get 2400, however My motherboard is not letting me go past 1600, so I'm switching back to that product since the 2400 CL 11-13-13-31 and this one is 9-9-9-24
