So I have Windows already installed and running on my HDD but wanted to add my Samsung 840evo SSD. I have attempted plugging it into different SATA ports and different cables that work with no sign of detection in either the BIOS menu nor in windows device manager.

My PC usually boots in IDE. I tried running in ahci and neither seem to make a difference.
My motherboard is a gigabyte 970 d3. All drivers are up to date!

Bad news, if it's not detected by BIOS in same SATA port and cables as that HDD it won't show up anywhere else. It shouldn't matter if AHCI or IDE or even RAID. It doesn't matter if it's formatted either.
That MB is compatible with that SSD 100%.
Is it new ?

Some times BIOS doesn't detect a part if the drivers aren't installed, like some GPU's. That's why it is recommended to start on onboard graphics on the first boot.

I'm using windows 8.1. The SSD is brand new never used. Yeah after some research learned that RAID or not makes no difference. The latest drivers to be released for my motherboard were back in 2013. Would rolling back drivers cause any problems?

Countmike, Im leaning on the conclusion that it might be faulty and should send it into samsung as no cable, sata slot or pc has made any difference. Is this what you're getting at?

Also really appreciate the help guys!
