Question about PSU and potentially case

Hello everyone, I have a question concerning my PSU.

Firstly, this PC was not built by me but i did pick out the parts...all except for my PSU

So here are my specs:
intel i5 4690 3.5ghz
EVGA GTX 960 2gb
Sandisk 128gb SSD
WD blue 1TB HDD
Asus B85M-G chipset
DDR3 8gb RAM
CM k380 case
Raidmax cobra 400w PSU

So here's the problem, the PSU; I have read on many of the threads that it simply isn't a reliable PSU and I should considering changing PSUs ASAP. Also, because I didn't build this myself, the wire management is simply horrible (to be fair im really bad at wire management too)

Now my question is: should i upgrade my PSU and if I should, would anyone be able to recommend me a good semi-modular PSU that isn't pricey. Also, because I am from New Zealand, many of the solid brands that you can find in USA are simply unavailable here.

Finally, I've looked around the K380 and if I do stick with a non-modular PSU, is it even possible to have good wire management?

Thanks guys!

Solution

For an extra $10 I might go for semi modular, otherwise I would just coil the extra wire at the bottom of the case next to the PSU - keep it tidy with a zip tie

The good news is that I have had three power supplies fail on computers built with ASUS motherboards, and no damage occurred to the motherboard or CPU. In one case, the motherboard warned me that the power supply was unstable before it blew.
I really like ASUS
Having said that, 400W seems low. If you run a PSU near it's maximum capacity, it is likely to fail sooner and harder...
I have a similar rig to you running off a 500W power supply.

Finally, I think there is excessive hype about PSU - for example the Corsair CX range gets absolutely slated on this forum, but in reality they are perfectly good PSU, with one drawback - the capacitors fail after a few years.
In UK or America you can get a longer lasting PSU for similar money, so it is an easy decision, but if you can't source our favourite PSU in NZ, then any respected brand will probably be OK.
Have a look at the PSU tier list 2.0 thread on toms hardware

Right I was looking through that thread all day and while some of the tier 1 and 2 PSUs are available in NZ, theyre 160$ and above...which is quite a bit. Would you say that tier 2 and above is a must or?

Hello, I am in NZ so I can really only get brands like seasonic, Antec, EVGA, corsair. The "cheaper" ones such as rosewill aren't available here

That's about 130$ NZD, alright and would you recommend i go for a semi-modular simply cause my case isnt great for wire management?

Final question, would it make more sense to upgrade to a higher wattage since I am going to be changing PSU anyways?
