Is it better to buy a large tower with less expensive hardware or a medium tower with more expensive hardware?

I am planning to build a PC soon and I have this question. The hardware within in a PC will becomes obsolete rather quickly, but a PC case is the only part that that I can effectively use the next time I want to upgrade/build a new PC. So is it better to buy a large size tower and cheaper components that aren't exactly proportional to the size of the case now, and eventually upgrade to the more expensive hardware later, or buy a medium-sized tower now with medium-priced equipment?

What I want from pc in the end with those upgrades is to be very advanced and top-of-the-line almost to the point of overkill. However, as of right now, I just want a PC that can comfortably run most modern games at 40 - 60 fps 720-1080p, such as GTA V or Battlefield, because this is the current state of my wallet: http://9gag.com/gag/a8jP09p/my-wallet-right-now

(well perhaps I have a bit more money than that, but to be specific I can spend about $500 on a custom computer at the moment, or a bit more depending on what kind of case I should buy)

Thank you for your answers!

Any mid tower can accommodate full ATX motherboard and everything that can be installed on it.
It's also true that most new ones have better arrangement for neat wiring, better placement of PSU (at bottom), dedicated places for liquid cooling, more and larger case fans or spaces for them but the rest is just mostly styling or in other words "I like looks of it".
Full tower and server towers provide more space for easier work inside it and better ventilation for better cooling and that's why I prefer to use them no matter what's inside.

I mean if I were to buy a larger and better components later, such as a GPU, motherboard, etc, would a medium tower be able to fit those components later?

Reusing the same case in an upgrade would also save money.
