Hi, look at these
combinations:

How would I go about ranking these?

GTX 960 (2GB) / i5 4460
GTX 960 (2GB) / i5 6400
GTX 960 (2GB) / i5 4460
GTX 960 (2GB) / i5 4590

GTX 960 (4GB) / FX 6300

R9 380 (2GB) / X4 860K
R9 380 (4GB) / X4 860K

What's the top 3 best? (In order)

Note: the combination differences in

- GPU
- VRAM
- processor

Solution

Best choice would be i5-6500 with R9 380.
Second best would be i3-6100 with R9 380.
The removed choice would be an AMD CPU.(Really bad)
Ranking those would be:
i5-6400/GTX9602GB
i5-4590/GTX9602GB
i5-4460/GTX9602GB
There is no reason to get a 4th Gen Intel CPU today, that's pointless. 7th Gen will be coming soon, not sure why old tech is considered. It costs practically the same as a Skylake system.

I would look into an I5-6500, way better clock speeds than a 6400. Then I'd get a 380 or 960, whichever you choose; it's more a personal matter. My preference? R9 380.

So even though the GTX 960 is a little slower, (apparently 20% slower??) the overall gaming framerate will be better than an R9 380 with a weaker AMD?

Even if the R9 380 is 4GB and the GTX 960 is 2GB?
GTX 960 with i5 STILL wins VS R9 380 with weaker AMD processor?

(performance as in high framerate and stability)

There is no such generalization for anything, it depends on the exact game. And the 380 = GTX 960

Sorry, I should have specified.
I'm talking about performance in games like BF4, Crysis 3, Metro 2033.
(If that helps)

Crysis 3 and BF4, R9 380.
Metro 2033, GTX 960.

I'm picking between those systems (pre-built) (I don't have the time or knowledge to build my own)

and they're almost the same price (within the £550-600 range) so which should I go for,
to play BF4, Crysis 3 and Metro 2033 with as high of a stable
frame rate as possible?

(1920x1080 resolution is fine)

Am I right in thinking it's not worth going with the R9 380 if the processor is a (bottlenecking?) weaker AMD CPU?
(And plus if I'm correct, CPUs are more difficult to upgrade than GPUs? If I decide to upgrade some day.)
So I don't want to be left with a weaker CPU if I'm not sure how to upgrade in some years compared to a GPU which I assume is far simpler (just slotting and connecting a couple of wires?)

Are there any benchmarks that would be helpful here for knowing which system would
give the best performance?

So I'm trying to decide out of these pre-built systems:

GTX 960 (2GB) / i5 4460

GTX 960 (2GB) / i5 4590

GTX 960 (2GB) / i5 6400

GTX 960 (4GB) / FX 6300

R9 380
(2GB) / X4 860K
R9 380 (4GB) / X4 860K

What's the top 3 in order ? (Just in case one or two become out of stock or something.)

i5-6400 with GTX960, even if you go for the R9 380 builds, the CPUs would hold you back and you will get worse performance than this build.
