Hi,
Hopefully someone can help. I installed an M.2 on my mobo in the dedicated M.2 slot. Eventually I got it to boot from the drive but boot up is very slow. Like 90 seconds from the BIOS ok beep. In configuration in BIOS under BOOT I see "Windows Boot Manager" listed as the first boot device. No where in the BIOS is the M.2 mentioned. I have searched the manuals and online "support" from Asus without results. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Ive updated the BIOS to 2101 ( dec 2015).

System
MB: ASUS x99-Deluxe UEFi 3.1
CPU: i7-5820K
Graphics: NVIDIA 950 TI @gb
M.2: Samsung 950 Pro
RAM: Crucial Battlestix 4X4, 16GB

I apologize in advance for missing some pertinent info if I did

Thanks

Do you have any other drives? If so, disconnect them, update to the latest MB BIOS. Go into BIOS and load defaults, then look for CSM in the boot section and disable it completly.
You need to have a USB boot drive with windows 10 on it, to witch you should add the latest RST driver from intel from https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25165/Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Intel-RST-RAID-Driver. Get the file f6flpy-x64.zip and extract it to a folder on the USB, and when windows install asks where to install select have disk and point it to said folder, than refresh and you are good to go.

Hi,
I apologize I am just answering. I had spent over 5 hours trying to get this to work. Then I was on the phone with ASUS support for 1-1/2 hours (when I mysteriously got disconnected). I was frustrated. Then I came on Tom's and posted my question. The answer was fast and accurate to a T. I followed the suggestion and it worked perfectly. Thank you so much Hisgsz! I learned my lesson. Next time I will post here first.

I cant express how much I appreciate your help and taking the time to answer.
Thanks

No probs. Now make sure you install "NVMe Driver Installer" from the 950 pro section here http://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/download/consumer.html
After that, install Samsung Magician and i recommend setting "over provisioning" to it's default value. It will take 10% of the drive and assign it for internal logic. This way, you don't have to worry about accidentaly filling the drive(witch shouldn't be done on any ssd). When you enter teh OP section, wait until magician does it's math and aloows you to "Set OP".
Also, go under OS Optimization and disable "prefetch/Superfetch".
It is also recommended to right click your C: drive go to proprieties and uncheck "Allow files on this drive to have contents...." then apply to drive folders and subfolders. This will take a while, don't abort it.

Hi this is my first post.
I have today tried installing a Samsung 960 evo M2 nvme drive using the m2 slot on the Asus X99 extreme. I got windows to start the install to the point where it reboots and then the m2 drive is absent as a boot device.
Simple fix went to Asus website downloaded the bios update as of May 17 extracted it to a usb drive. Went into the bios tools ez flash and browsed for the bios update file. Installed the bios update. The pc restarted and continued the windows installation immediately without any bios tinkering. So allways update your bios if you have any system issues.

Setting up Windows 10 on the M2 drive
This will of course wipe your M2 drive I am guessing it's new otherwise backup before you start if you haven't already
you can get an M2 adapter to usb on ebay very cheap.
Check Bios Boot settings are set to UEFI + Legacy for drives
Boot from windows 10 USB Drive (F8) or set it in bios (F2)
if you haven't got windows 10 it can be downloaded from here onto a USB drive over 8GB
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Choose repair during windows setup
Troubleshoot
Command Prompt
Type in the following
Diskpart (hit the enter key)
List disk (hit the enter key)
Select disk 2 (make sure you give the number for the M2 drive) i.e. 2 (hit the enter key)
Clean (hit the enter Key) (you should get succeeded to confirm).
Convert mbr (enter)
Now boot from USB and install Windows 10 Pro
