Geta quad core from that generation: Q6600, Q6700, Q8300 etc. second hand(the fastest you can find that is supported by the MB - check the manufacturesrs website, Q9650 or Q9550(cheaper and about the same) would be best), 4 or 8 gigs of ddr2 and a adata sp550 SSD(no use in getting a faster one as they will all be restricted by SATA2 interface).

Mind you, all this will make an excellent windows pc, but will not be good for gaming.

What mobo, there were numerous socket 775 mobos that maxed at 2GB of DRAM. 2GB isn't really enough to run any modern Apps or games
