Why are X58 Motherboards Still So Expensive?

I buy used PC components, assemble them into a computer and then flip the PC for a profit. It's loads of fun and it helps cover my spending money in University. For the sake of selling them, I try to stay away from the Core 2 series, because most people know how old those are. As soon as I can throw i7 or Xeon on the ad, it gets so much easier to sell. But this leads into my question: Why are X58 boards still going for upwards of $100CDN? They're going on 7-8 years old now, so I just don't understand how they can still be so pricey. I get that the LGA1336 socket was considered elite, but this many years later?

And on top of this, how come LGA1336 Xeons are going for $25 on Ebay, while a compatible motherboard costs as much as it does?

I'm genuinely curious. It's driving me nuts that I have all these cheap Xeons and no board to put them in.

Solution
Motherboards die more often than CPUs, so there are a lot of people out there with a perfectly good older CPU looking for a compatible motherboard to tide them over another couple years.

Low supply, medium-high demand -> relatively high price
