This is the motherboard that I have. Today, seemingly out of nowhere, I am seeing the socket temperatures (information from: HWMonitor) go much higher than I've ever seen before. The maximum that it has reached today, was 68'C. That isn't normal, 60-61 is about normal (under load, gaming, etc, not idling).

What is the safe maximum temperature for this motherboard? If anyone who sees this can answer that. I've seen various forum posts about similar boards, and boards in general say the safe temperatures range from 70'C - 80'C. Is that in the ballpark of being correct?

Secondly, does anyone have any idea why today, out of nowhere, these temperatures would be almost alarmingly high? It *IS* pretty warm in my room today (79'F, yikes! It's usually only 73-74'F in here), for some reason. I'm not sure why. Would a spike in ambient temperatures in my room be the cause?

It might be jumping the gun to be asking questions like this on the first day of this kind of behavior but I'm just kinda sitting here, so why not, eh?

No offense but that doesn't really answer either of my questions and sounds more like an opinion, which everyone differs on. Regardless of the board's perceived quality, it is the board I have right now and am stuck with.

The thermal deficiencies in the design of the motherboard have already been pointed out. Without knowing what kind of PC case, CPU cooler, and fan system you have, you will find that poor case cooling will make a bad situation worse. If you don't provide adequate cooling, you will get high temperatures.

Although Asus has cut everything it could to make the price low, you too can cut everything you can to have a low cost system. It may be worthwhile to invest in better fans that move more air than to determine what the maximum temperature of the motherboard is. The number of fans and their size is also important.

I asked what the maximum safe socket temperature was for my motherboard, if anyone knew (or a ballpark estimate), and how much the room temperature would influence hardware temperatures.

I'll contact ASUS and ask them instead, since I'm sure they'll know the answer. I posted this over the weekend for the hell of it rather than having to contact them because their phone support is pretty awful. But I guess I'll have to.
