I am building a dream build. If anyone knows of a great gaming mobo out there that is more than 32gb for an AMD, please let me know but I am curious if these two are compatible.

For extra detail, I have a FX-8350 and plan to buy a Titan X. The rest is fluff info. Is this compatible and is there any AMD gaming motherboards out there with 64gb from a well known/trusted brand? I can't find any.

Solution
There aren't a lot of 8350s that can even run a full load of 32GB at 2400 let alone 2666. Also while technically the 990 chipset might handle up to 64GB, you would A) have to find 16GB DDR3 sticks (few and far between and very expensive, haven't seen any in awhile) B) if you could fine them with the MC (memory controller) on the FX CPUs you'd be lucky to run 1333 sticks, again if you could even find them. As far as the Titan X, it's not worth the money if you look at a 980Ti. Also the FX series of CPUs is old history that had troble even keeping up with the then current Intel chips back when the FXs were released, and there were older Intel chips that were better gaming CPUs even back then. Sorry but you are looking at bad choices...

Fatal1ty 990FX Killer/3.1 reports it supports 64GB ram. if you dont mind me asking, but why are you buying a new AMD system this late in the year?

Ok, let me try to show you where you're going off the deep end here. Assume both builds use the same video card.

This little core i3 with 8GB memory will smoke the AMD in many games for way less money. What you call a dream is really a nightmare IMO.

Sorry but you are looking at bad choices across the board. You could build a good Skylake or Haswell for possibly less money that would run circles around your proposed build that would be a considered a dream system where what you propose is more on the nightmare side. Again sorry to be blunt, but hate to see people waste good money on something that won't keep them happy for but maybe weeks at best

I don't see how buying this late in the year makes any difference and budget is not an issue but I am told AMD are good for gaming which is what I plan on doing. I'm unsure how this is a nightmare build since the FX-8350 is 4ghx start with an 8 core and (I think) 8 threads. That's not that bad. I could drop down from Titan X to 980Ti though.

AMD CPUS are 4 modules 8 threads, this means each module is capable of processing 2 threads at once (like intels hyperthreading) but is mich slower at processing tasks that require one thread and they run on the 32nm node (intel are at 14nm now) the bigger transistors mean more heat for less processing power. Intel currently have the best CPUS for gaming as they are power efficient and and much quicker than their outdated AMD counterparts. An AMD CPU is best for people on a limited budget as you get more for less but when it comes to best performance intel have held onto that for a few years now. If you have an "unlimited" budget any intel core i5/i7, 16gb ram, SSD/HDD and a 980Ti would be considered a high end gaming pc, where if you had a max budget of say $600-800 you would be recomended something like an 8320, 8gb ram and a 960/380(x). The reason i stated this late is Nvidia have plans to release their new 16nm pascal GPUs the 1070 and 1080 which have much better performance over the current maxwell GPUs available today, and there have been reports of AMD releasing newer and much faster CPUs later in the year codenames "Zen" if you are able to wait it out till Q3 you will be able to get a much better system for the same price, if you want a system now the best you could get would be a 6700k, 16/32GB RAM, a large SSD for favorite games, OS and software, a large HDD to store other games, movies and other things, 1 or 2 GTX 980Ti's or an AMD fury line of GPU, and a 850-1000W PSU (for any upgrades and just the extra headroom) and maybe custom watercooled if your that game.

Hope this helped in some way
