Computer Won't Post and Only Boots To Black Screen With Underscore

After a lot of investigating and trying a few different things out I have finally given in and decided to post here. My computer was working fine this morning (and has been for the past 6 months) but when I went to boot it up this afternoon, it would only boot to a black screen with an underscore in the top left-hand corner. It would not even boot to the BIOS screen.
I have tried unplugging my video card and using the motherboard HDMI port, I have tried swapping the RAM sticks about (i.e. using only 1, different ports, etc) and I have tried resetting theBIOS by both removing the CMOS battery and using the pins. That being said, the first time I removed the battery and plugged it back in again, the computer did boot to windows, but when I proceeded to plug the graphics card in again, it continued to do what it was doing before - now this method no longer works. Any pointers as to what I could do next?

Full system specs:

  • Intel i5 4690 processor
    Asus Z97-P motherboard
    Kingston 16gb (2x8gb) HyperX Fury 1866 Mhz
    EVGA GTX 970 FTW+
    Corsair CXM 600W Modular PSU
    Corsair H60 cooler
    SanDisk SDSSDA-120G-G25 SSD
    Standard 1TB HDD

Solution

Actually now that I think about it the board might be posting in the background but the HDD is bad. Try hitting del or F2 when it is booting.

Ouch we need to start from the bottom then. Try to boot it with only 1 stick of RAM and the CPU that one should have integrated graphics.

No luck, I still get the black screen with the white underscore.
