Advice on graphics card buy

Hey guys,
I planned on buying a used gtx 970 or 980 off ebay for my desktop but have just read about the upcoming 1070 and 1080. Should i wait for price drops and more importantly, with new graphics cards coming out how long will i be able to run new games before the 970 or 980 becomes outdated.

If you are in no rush then the wise thing to do is wait and see what the next generation of cards brings before making your decision. However, if you need a card now then I am sure the GTX 970 would serve you well. I would not get the GTX 980 as I would prefer to save a little more and get the Ti version.
