I have a 1920 x 1080 resolution monitor but most of the games, when i apply the recommended settings goes to 2170 x ....something... so which one should i stick to? and not gonna lie the recommended looks a bit better, especially in dark souls 3...
If you are sure you have a 1080p monitor then always choose 1920x1080, I don't know why a game would set it to use higher than your monitor resolution unless DSR in enabled.
It's because he has DSR enabled in his Nvidia control panel.
You can turn it off and it will stop giving you DSR resolutions.
The bottom of this shows where in the control panel to turn it off:

So as its recommended is it better? because it does look more beautiful....does it have a huge impact on the performance and is it better if i turn it off?
Yes, it kind of does have a rather large impact performance, it's up to you whether you prefer more consistant frame rates at lower quality...

Yes, it kind of does have a rather large impact performance, it's up to you whether you prefer more consistant frame rates at lower quality or more irregular framrates at higher quality.
DSR just pushes your GPU to it's limit where you monitor resolution may hold it back from it's full potential.
