Hello, I purchased a HP 550-126.

It has a pegatron uATX mother board.

I recently purchased a MSI Computer NVIDIA GeForce GT 740 4GB DDR3 VGA/DVI/HDMI PCI-Express Video Card N740-4GD3.

I was told I need to upgrade the Power supply.

Can anyone recommend a good power supply for this mother board and graphics card?

I don't have much experience with hardware so I am hoping to find something simple to install.

If anyone has any recommendations I would appreciate it.

COLGeek, yes that is my system.

As for purchasing PC parts I will probably order them off the internet.

Budget? Id like to keep it around or under $100 USD.

The power supply currently installed is a 180 W uATX aPFC internal power supply.

I would like to replace the power supply with something that will fit back into the original spot. However most places I am shopping around don't show power supplies in the uATX form so Im not sure about that.

The Power supply in there sure looks like a standard ATX PSU, any PSU would fit as long as its not a long one.

Newegg does stock a couple of microATX PSU's, they are crap I would not buy them.

That said for a GT 740, you don't need it I would not bother changing it.

It may be true that the GT 740 can co-exist with the 180w PSU. However, that PSU is rated at less than half the recommended PSU rating requirement for the GT 740 (400w):

For long term stability and use, you really should upgrade the PSU as planned.

I kind of feel like in the long run an upgraded power supply may be the best bet.

It's just a matter of figuring out which one will provide the needed wattage and fit in the HP case where the old one was.

There's so many options so it's a little confusing.

It's more about voltage stability than "providing the needed wattage". What is your budget?

Well that's easy.

Turkey, I like the 550W PSU.

Do you think that will fit the computer case where the old PSU was. This is a HP case.

The potential size issue is why I asked about the actual model of what is installed. We should be easily able to determine if a standard ATX (or smaller) PSU will meet your needs. Turkey's suggested PSUs may fit the bill, but you should verify before ordering. HP (and the other OEMs) throw curveballs from time to time. Worth a short wait to be sure.
