Hey guys,

My PC can't detect some hard disks, i have 4/5 hard disks he detect 2 hard disk, and other not.
I bought today a 500GB Hard disk from a strange people on internet. When I connect (With Sata and power cable) my PC can't detect. When I listen to the Hard disk, I doesnt hear strange sound, it sounds smooth. But when I connect my PC going work too slow, on the motherboard bootlogo its gonna hang like 1min. (Normally 10sec.) and when I enter BIOS, he's loading the BIOS too slow what I used before...

I use normally a Laptop Hard Disk (320GB / 5k rpm) and when I connect second hard disk my PC is gonna work too slow... (When i try to open "Task Manager" it says: "Not responding"... etc.
Can any help me?

EDIT:

PC Specs:
4GB RAM (DDR2)
Core2 Duo @ 2.8GHz (E7400)
Windows 8 Pro / 64 Bit
Radeon HD 3800 Series GPU (2.3GB / 512MB Vram)
Asus P5QL-PRO Motherboard

You've done some extensive troubleshooting. Nothing really comes to my mind, except for attaching the drives to another system.

So far, you've tried:
- Using a different OS - Ubuntu. In my view, this rules out a possible driver related issue.
- You have used different ports and cables and the drive is not even recognized by BIOS.

From these two, I believe there's something wrong with the drives.

Apart from that, I believe the SATA to USB adapter should be the cheaper option. Keep in mind that you will need a power cord as well, as the drives are 3.5' and the USB connection wouldn't power them up.

First off, what is the model of the hard drive causing the issue?

There are a lot of people selling problem hard drives online, often by just clearing the S.M.A.R.T. values to mask their failure and selling them as used or refurbished. However such drives will only act up again once they are put in use.

Hmm, I don't think so... But, Ok. this hard disk its not good, the other 3 or 4 harddisk doesnt work too. Only 1 Laptop hard disk and a 160GB hard disk.

I try to install Linux on all of the Hard disks, but Linux installer can't detect. Windows can't detect too, and BIOS can't detect too...

No, all of Hard disks are SATA. I tried this:

- Tried to connect other Hard disks. (Not detected)
- Tried to install Linux (And check if he can detect HDD...) / (Not detected)
- Tried check in BIOS if the BIOS detect HDD (Not detected)
- Checked in Windows (Not detected)

Hi there KDV,

I would agree with JaredDM. There's a chance that all the drives except for these two(working ones) are faulty.

Have you tried attaching the drives with different cables? Just grab the ones from the working drive. You can even attach those to the same SATA port. It would be best to attach the to another system. That way, you will be sure if the issue is system or HDD related.

Keep in mind that similar system unresponsiveness, in most cases, is caused by failing drives.

Apart from all this, I believe it will not hurt to go to your MOBO's website and update your SATA drivers.

Let us know how this goes,

Hey,

I can't find any updates for my SATA drivers... Only updates for BIOS.

Yes, I tried different cables... But it doesnt work. I Tried this; I unplug the HDD what I'm now use, and connect the HDD of 500GB, but its still not working. I tried the other 6 SATA connectors... Nope, didn't work :(.
But, 7 / 8 months ago this "bug" was happening again... (I don't remember how I fixed it)

I have not tried yet to load BIOS in default settings. I have to try?

Well, I believe you can set your BIOS to defaults. In case your system doesn't boot after that, you can go to boot order and adjust it if needed.
Yet, even if all of this is related to some BIOS settings, I think that the HDDs should at least be recognized by BIOS.
If you can attach those drives to another system, you will greatly narrow down the possible causes.

Yes, ur true. BIOS didn't find the HDD's...
Can you give me other solutions what I can try? I don't have a other Desktop PC, only 2 Laptops.
I need a Dockingstation for HDD :p, or a converter to USB so I can connect to PC / Laptop. I think I gonna buy that converter (When I have my payment :D).
