Im going to build a gaming pc and im thinking which cpu should i get.i can get i3 6100 for around 120$ or i5 6500 for 260$.i think to get i3 because it can squeeze good fps around 60 in all modern games on high or ultra and after 2year to change to next generation cpu without changing mobo.or get i5 now and have it for like 4year.which will be better choise?i think gpu will be r9 380 or gtx 970 maximum.im not going to render anything.only for gaming.also gigabyte z170x gaming 3 good mobo for this cpus?

go for the i5 CPU will last a lot longer than the GPU most people over systems lifetime swap gpu 1 to 3 times and not the cpu.

ALso for GPU wait 1 month for gtx 1070 it will be a lot faster than 970 at almost same cost.

As more games are being designed and programmed around more cores, the i5 has a better future. The i7 is overkill for most gamers, and hyperthreading (which would let the i3 compete with the i5) isn't used enough yet.

If you really want to stretch the budget and think 2 cores is fine, go with a G series CPU. But most would recommend just taking the financial hit now with the i5 and have less regrets in the future. Better to have more than you need than not enough.

I'd only go with a 970 now if you can get it for $250 or less. Otherwise, wait the 2 months for the 1070.

Most games run fine on a Core i3. Very few show much improvement with an i5, but there are some.
