I have an i5 6500 and an asus z170m-plus mobo. Is it worth upgrading my graphics card? I bought this card used so not exactly sure how long its going to last, as I do see some screen tearing every now, primarily in LoL. I have a 1080p 144hz monitor as well.

If so what are some good options? How can I tell if my gpu bottlenecks the other components?

Solution
Your processor can definitely do way better, and with a 144hz monitor you should consider something faster and more powerful. A GTX 970 (or 1070 if you can wait a month) or an R9 390x would pair very well with that processor.

Can you recommend one at a slightly lower price point? maybe around $200-250?

Say is there that much of a difference between the R9 380 and the 390?

the 390 is a LOT more powerful than a 380 but also is more expensive

There is a pretty big difference between the two. The R9 380x does fall in between and if you're looking for a value proposition that would be a good choice

How are you determining the quality between the two? I dont really know the qualifiers for a good GPU, only really have GPU boss to go by.

on youtube there are benchmarks that show how well the gpu runs games thats one of the easiest ways
and in games the 390 will give 15 or so more fps than the 380 and a 390 is if you want for some reason can do 4k
and you having a 144hz 1080p monitor i thin that the 390 would be the best card for you

GPU boss is crap. There is an article on the main Tom's frontpage comparing GPU's at each pricepoint, which has plenty of benchmarks. There are many other articles if you search google for R9 380 vs R9 390 etc.

gpu boss is good for comparing only clock speeds
i mean according to gpu boss last time a checked a single 970 is better than a r9 295x2

Hence it is useless....
