Hey guys so I am aware that Hitachi and HGST is essentially the same company and I am looking into buying a new 3TB HDD that is within my budget. Looking through Amazon I saw two HDDs that sparked my interest. One is a Hitachi brand and the other is a HGST brand. The price difference is about $35 and was wondering what exactly is the difference between the two brands? Is the HDD labeled Hitachi essentially a hard drive released before WD acquired their company?

I have provided a link to the two hard drives below.

Edit: I also do see the HGST is SATA III compared to the SATA from Hitachi.

Any Hitachi branded HDDs are pre-WD takeover, and HGST are post take over, from memory, I don't think there is that much difference over all but I'm not certain
