I was testing Dual Memory and XMP on my Extreme4 ASRock Z97 mobo by moving from the single channel slots to dual and it wouldn't boot due to incompatibility, not knowing this, I saw posts about possible bent CPU socket pins. I opened my CPU, checked for bent pins, saw nothing, set it back, locked it in place and booted.

Only to find that I can't run games past 30 fps (prior 250+), Programs crash, CPU runs slow, etc.

Did I do something wrong? No pins were bent in the process, but did opening my CPU hurt it?

i5-4790k, default heatsink/fan. 0 issues with these prior.

also getting an A6 error on my mobo.

Not more thermal paste, but when you took the fan off if you did not clean it and apply new that will cause this issue.

Remove the cooler and get a lint free cloth (like one you would use to clean eyeglasses) and rubbing alcohol...

Woah, your temps are insane. How did you re-install your cooler?

Thats your problem. You needed to clean off your processor and cooler, apply a grain of rice with of thermal paste to the processor and then re-install the cooler and lock it in place without moving it.

Your CPU is thermal throttling. Do not keep running it like that.

My only form of cooler is the CPU Fan and 2 Case Fans. I guess I need more thermal paste. Any suggestion on how I can clean the CPU paste off without harming it?

Remove the cooler and get a lint free cloth (like one you would use to clean eyeglasses) and rubbing alcohol and thoroughly clean the surface of the processor (you shouldn't need to remove it) and also the surface of the cooler. then put a grain of rice worth of thermal paste on, and mount the cooler and hold it in place without moving or removing it, and lock it in place.
