I have a strange question which I'm not sure if anyone here has the answer to.
If I buy a new intel core i7 6700k ( no box) off of ebay from a seller who isn't authorized by intel, do I still keep the original warranty and ability to RMA the processor if it fails? If so, what do I need to acquire from the seller?
I'm not too concerned about the seller's reputation, it seems quite good.
Here is the post I am looking at.

OEM Processors generally do not have a manufacturer's warranty, especially if it is not an authorized Intel seller.

If you have a Microcenter near you you can get that processor boxed for $319, full warranty etc. IMO for 20 bucks extra its worth it.

thanks for response.
I sadly don't live near a microcenter :(
So If I buy a version of the CPU that is not OEM, ie with a box, would that have a warranty? Example linked.

I think they actually do internet sales now too:

Same price, no worries on warranty. While Intel will probably be ok with it, if they are not they will ask for a receipt you do not have.

EDIT: Crap I just noticed for some reason they don't ship it.

I would say for the savings its worth the risk. If god forbid you have a problem which is extremely rare (Intel failure rate is like 0.3%) then just say you lost the receipt or something, if they even ask.

Would you recommend buying the $300 OEM version or the $320 new boxed version? If I understand you correctly I should be paying the extra $20 for the non-oem version.

I would buy the boxed one only because there is more of a chance you may be able to get warranty service on it. With the OEM one you really have nothing at all. Also with the box you would know its new, sealed, etc.

Yeah, the second hand thing is pretty unclear.
