Google Drive Can't Connect Except Through VPN

I don't know where to post this exactly because it isn't quite a hardware problem.

After turning on my firewall to provide my computer with some security, google drive will now only connect when my VPN is connected. I am not sure if this is a problem with an allowance with the firewall or what. I have done the "allow a program through windows firewall" for both the VPN and google drive but it still says "unable to connect" unless I turn on the VPN.

My browser also doesn't load web pages. It is as if my computer won't allow anything to see that it is online unless it is routed through Astrill. Can someone please help me out? I am using Windows 7 with Windows firewall and Astrill VPN. For drive I am using Google's program. For my browser I am using Maxthon.

I don't know a lot about firewall allowances but it seems like it started after I turned on the firewall and made a rule to block Adobe Lightroom from connecting (please don't ask it is a long story but nothing shady, I promise). But the only thing I blocked was Adobe and it isn't even open when I am trying to run Drive or my browser. I think I need to make a rule or an allowance but I don't know what it is and networking is my weak point.

I have been trying to network my devices lately and who knows what I did wrong. I have another post on that if anyone is interested in helping out with the weird situations I configure for myself.

Sorry this isn't a hardware question but this is mostly where I come for help - if I am supposed to post it somewhere else can someone please give me a link also? Thanks in advance guys!

OS = Windows 7

Solution
First thing, disable the firewall, did that fix the issue?

If it did, go though what you changed from default and see which change causes the issue.
