Hi. I lost my hard drive at school, but I saved the stuff a while ago on my computer. The problem is, I'm missing about twenty pages of something I was typing. Is there a way to recover the information I lost or pull up the document without the hard drive?

At first sight the answer is a resounding NO! There is one very long shot bt it depends on some factors.

Go into Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services and scroll down to the Volume Shadow Copy entry. If that is stopped, set to Manual or just not there you may as well stop reading.

Still here? Go to www.piriform.com and download the free version of Recuva. Install it and set it to look for Documents then hope the one you want can be pulled out of the folder where Windows stores VSC data.

It is still very unlikely the system will have copied a file strored on another Volume but I'm not familiar with the workings of that utility. Let us know if it works - it would be interesting.
