My budget gets lower and lower each time for a new mobo and cpu. Anyways, I need a good motherboard and cpu combo to go with my current Kingston FuryX DDR3-1333 8gb ram sticks that's no more than $150. I'll be using this computer for moderate to light gaming. Usb 3.0 headers are nice but not required on the motherboard. My previous threads keep getting deleted, so if you answered a similar question prior I apologize. Thanks.

Solution
As much as I prefer overclocking, I'd go the i3 route cuz it gives better performance. It came out in March 2015, whereas the fx-6300 in Oct 2012. That doesn't mean it is better but does have newer architecture. The fx-6300 has more cores but that doesn't translate to performance. Choice is yours. Both cpus are decent though. Keep in mind if you go fx-6300 you must overclock it and need to make sure the mobo can do so sufficiently.

Are you near a Microcenter store? You could get a M5A97 R2.0 + fx-6300 for $145.

Thanks for the responses. Would the i3-4170 or the fx-6300 OC be better for league while streaming and battlefield while not streaming? Thanks!

FX 6300 is probably the best for this due to the higher core count, although neither is entirely ideal unless you can get some good OCs on the AMD.
Sadly I gotta admit the AM3+ socket is on the way out, but you should be able to find a good deal online.
Some second hand AMD bundles go for very cheap if you can find some on amazon or ebay.

I would take the i3 for its single core performance. It may struggle at times with heavy loads while streaming, but the rest of the time it should run better.
The main reason is the upgrade path. You can go all the way up to a 4790k if you wanted to.

Good point.
If you're not overclocking the i3 is the way to go.
The FX-6300 is my personal choice because i'm really into overclocking, but if you want that upgrade potential to a devil's canyon then go for it, its still a great decision either way.

I'm near a Microcenter, and I'll go with what you suggested. Thanks!
