Hello guys,

I just wanted to ask if it's worth it to sell my MSI R9 390 now and add more cash for the upcoming GTX 1070. I'm not aiming for the 1080 though. I read that the release is around June this year. Would it be worth it? Also the release would be just the reference card yes? or also the other brands?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers!

Wait for benchmark. The first wave of cards will be the founders edition. But board partner custom design will trail soon. There are already leaks some of board partner design on the web. and they were expected to come up with even more crazy oc than the one shown with founder edition.

I think you should wait for reviews and real world benchmarks. The news so far points to this being a perfectly valid course of action but until proper testing results are released it is difficult to give you a definitive answer.

Yes that is what I'm also thinking. I'm also thinking of the price drop of the MSI R9 390 once 1080 is released. Wouldn't that be a down side if I sell it later this year?

I think the 2nd hand price will already be dropping but it will level out eventually. I am getting tons of emails from companies offering deals on 970,980, R9 3XX so if the new stock has already dropped the 2nd hand price will have fallen in line with it.

I guess if you sold now you might make a bit more but you'd also be without a GPU until you can buy the 1070. It is up to you if that is a worthwhile trade, personally I wouldn't want to be without a GPU as I play games frequently.

There's no way around that, and, honestly, the proices have already dropped. I mean, not literally, but i don't think anybody is buying 390s SH these days. SH buyers are price conscious and are surely waiting for the said price drops.

is it worth it, Yes.

Even though we don't know the exact real world benchmarks the new Pascal GPU's are going to be in a league of their own. the 1070 and 1080 will be able to handle a lot more than the R9 390. im going to be selling my R9 290x to get a GTX 1070, I only play on 1080p so I don't need more than that card.

There are early Ashes of the Singularity benchmarks that prove otherwise. Im not saying its not worth getting, but if these benchmarks are in any way accurate then Pascal is definitely not in a league of its own.

At 1080p the 1080 is ~ 13% faster than a reference 980ti, and at 1440p its 9% faster. Hardly anything to write home about.

you cant really compare an 80 card with an 80ti card, if the 1080 is almost 15% faster than the 1080ti that's amamzing considering the jump between the 980 and 980ti is pretty big so logically speaking the difference between the GTX 1080 and GTX 1080ti will be just as big meaning that there is a strong possibility of a 25%+ performance increase from 1 Gen that pretty substantial.
