How do I reapply thermal paste on a Zotac Gtx 970 4gb graphics card?

So I took apart my Zotac GTX 970 because I a bracket from Corsair to swap the stock heatsink with an AIO Cooler (H60). However, unfortunately that did not work because of compatibility issues. I am waiting for a reply from Corsair to find out if I can get a new bracket because I still want to cool it. The card reaches 80 degrees during gameplay which is really disturbing to me and I don't wanna mess around with fan settings or whatever. Anyhow, basically I want to put the card back together. I know how but I forgot where the thermal paste goes. I put it back on the VRM modules and I placed the metal heat spreaders back on top of it. I have all the screws and I have applied thermal paste to the graphics chip itself. But I remember that there were some flat strips of thermal paste on a couple of the memory modules on the gpu. Does it matter where I put them? I was thinking to put a small spot of thermal paste on each of the modules but I don't know if I should or not. If you guys want I can include a picture but it is basically the 8 black squares that surround the graphics chip which is what i am worried about.

Many thanks in advance!! :)

What you are referring to on the memory chips of the graphics card are thermal pads.

The thermal pads come in millimetre heights from 1mm thick to 2mm in thickness.

They have to be the right pads in mm height so that when the cooler is fitted back to the card the gap between the cooling plate of the cooler is taken up by the pads so heat can be drawn away from the chips to the face plate of the cooling solution.

If you just put a blob of thermal paste on each of the memory chips it will do nothing at all.

You need to buy new thermal pads from eBay of the same thickness of the old pads that were sat on the memory chips.

Bellow is a link from a search for thermal pads you need.
Make sure you order the right thickness by measuring the...

Thank you for your quick reply!! I found some thermal pads on Amazon. However, I don't know what thickness to get. What thickness would be compatible with the Zotac GTX 970 4gb GPU? It is the version that has 2 fans and no backplate if that helps. I saw that there were some large squares of thermal pads on Amazon as well. Should I get some of those and make my own cut outs for the V-Ram?

Many thanks in advance!
