Unfortunately, this does not sound really optimistic. Input/Output (I/O) errors are pretty common when the drive has been physically damaged, so it's possible that it might have bad sectors, which might have led to corruption of the files in that folder, causing the system to freeze when you try to access it.
At this point, the most important thing is recovering your files, so I'd advise you to try and access the drive via Ubuntu Live USB/DVD (this is basically a freeware, bootable, portable version of Linux), to see if it can properly recognize the drive and let you copy the files from that folder. If that doesn't help, you can give data recovery software a try: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1644496/lost-data-recovery.html &...
Hey there, umetea.

Seem like you've tried to write most of the description as a title and it is not visible. Do you have data on that drive, which you need to recover? Do you hear any unusual sounds/noises coming from it when you try to use it? Do you get any specific error when you try to open it?

I'd recommend that you check if the drive is recognized by Device Manager and Disk Management and post a screenshot of what you see there if it is (you can use imgur.com to upload the image). Here's how to open them: How to access Device Manager in Windows & How to access Disk Management in Windows to manage hard drives. Other than that you should try the drive with a different USB cable and a different computer (if possible), to see if you'd be able to access it.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.

sorry for the late reply. i've done all the things that you say but here's the problem, when I go to My Computer and click on my hard drive it opens and shows me all my folders. If I click on one of the folders on that drive it gives me the error "the request could not be performed because of an i/o device error" It's weird that all looks good until I try to go into the folder where my files are. and my computer will stuck and freeze until i unplugged my hd.Can you please help?
