Problems started after failed install of Win10 over Win7Pro.

Specs: Toshiba laptop Tecra, Win7Pro, 64bit

Problem: only able to boot from Hirens boot disk, despite several tries at changing startup in bios.

Events leading to current state: 1. Tried to install Win10, failed due to “insufficient disk space”. Reallocated space from other partitions. For some reason, ended up with larger C: drive, BUT 1.5Gb unallocated TO THE LEFT of C: drive. 2. Then unable to normal boot, only from Hirens boot disk. 3. Tried all manner of software to “merge”, “name”, “delete” this unallocated space on the dynamic drive. No luck.

Possible solution: noted that one error message came back “unallocated space too small to rename”, so intend to add space to allow for renaming, then will try to merge this new H drive into C:. Presumably this will eliminate the unallocated space before C;, allowing for regular boot.

Suggestions? Thanks in advance. Tom

Welcome, Tom!

Indeed, you should definitely consider starting from scratch! As @popatim suggested, you should backup all important files and re-partition & re-format the drive with the new OS install. Using the Windows installation wizard you should be able to re-arrange the partitions as you please, but make sure you no previous system files are present as it could potentially confuse the operating system again.

Good luck!
