ok so the mrs has said i can get a new graphic card and its been a few years since i was into building computers but i got my eye on the MSI GeForce GTX 970 GAMING TWIN FROZR V OC 4GB or the ASUS Radeon R9 390X STRIX GAMING OC 8GB.

had my gtx 670 for 4 years now and it still running fine but some games coming out are needing direct x 12 to run them i kinda wanna future proof myself again for at least another 4 years. which out of the 2 would make the better card?

Solution
it should be announced in 2weeks i think, no official AMD date yet, but suspected/rumoured launch in june/july, some weeks after Nvidias may 27th launch
(also expect limited initial stock right on release, thats usually how it goes, tho maybe they stocked up this time who knows)

If you had to choose between those two cards, get the gtx you'll be better off. As far as a personal opinion, if you have the extra cash wait for the 1080/1070 or at least the 980ti so you're future proof for another 1 1/2-2 years or so. Whenever I see a 970 it reminds me of a 670 in sli and even the sli is still faster at that. Good luck!

unless you are running Win10 getting a dx12 card wont help you much ;) (reading you on win7 in description)
also, since both those cards are already struggling to produce steady 60fps in some AAA titles maxed out settings on 1080p even, i would say neither could future proof you for 4 years, no way

also both AMD and Nvidia are releasing their new cards this year (few weeks away from release infact)
consider being patient and check those cards out instead, since its supposedly to have a price point that makes them cheaper than current cards yet better in performance

indeed they do look very good price/performance wise
i would however suggest you "endure" a bit longer and wait for AMD's release too,
could be nice to see what they have in their bag,
and if it competes with or maybe even "defeats" Nvidia ;)
(in terms of price and/or performance)
