hey guys i'm thinking of getting the gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 3 mobo and was wondering is doing raid 0 with the two m.2 slots would be a drastic performance increase over raid 0 with sata ssd's? thanks guys!

Solution

You want to use a PCIe x4 m.2 drive such as the Samsung 950 PRO.

A regular m.2 SATA drive is not worth the extra money, may as well just use a regular SATA drive.

what would you recomend for the fastest data transfer rates? a pcie ssd? isnt that just a m.2 strapped to an adapter? im using it for music production, storing large sample libraries. i would like it to not take 3 min to load a vsti lol

Go with M.2, it uses PCI so your not going to see a benefit by using a PCI adapter with a PCI SSD. Now like others have said raid 0 obviously has it's advantages/disadvantages but I recon you already know what those are.

Just make sure you get a PCI M.2 and not a SATA M.2 SSD, there is a large performance difference.
