Hi Friends

So I Had installed a n Gigbyte MOBO had the power supply working. Ran the Bios Boot and post.

then for other reasons took out the MOBO and installed another. replaced that same MOBO back into the computer. Now it wont power up.

I have used two Psu's one with a lit LED light and with all correct connections no boot now even a illumination on the power switch except a small a faint glow spark that does not return. IT should stay constantly lit.

I have the correct connection on the Switch pinz as the connector is key wayed. I tried to jump the two power pin s for a on jolt and nothing. I have used two PSUs

what am I missing?

You can find the pin-out for the connector here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATX

Remove the PSU from the system (or just unplug everything) Basically just plug the PSU into power, short Pin 16 to any ground (17) and it should turn on. If it does, you have an electrical fault somewhere in your computer.

That fault could be something with power running through it touching the chassis, or one of your components could be bad and causing the short.

Basic troubleshooting is to boot the computer with the least amount of hardware needed to get a result. Motherboard and CPU, no memory, and a PC speaker or buzzer. All other peripherals and components removed. This should beep at you saying the memory is missing, or a keyboard error. This...

All a case power switch does is short to ground, very unlikely to fail as there is no real load there.

Perhaps a short between the chassis and motherboard? Lose a screw somewhere?

Confirm the power supply still works by unplugging it from everything and trying to short the SB5V+ to a ground pin.

#1 I was thinking Is there insulated washers needed to Isolate the MOBO from the Case? I have no Spacers as the Case has those raised nipples to meet the board. It Sits in its I/O plate very nicely .

#2 Yes one MOBO hole has no screw...... the new PS is brand new ,,,, the old sitting outside the case would not power either yet has its LED light on! How would I short an "SB"5voylt to ground, I don't believe its bad P?S I think its a bad Owner!

Then begin installing components one at a time and booting.

When it stops working, you have found the problem.

Could be something simple like a badly wired power or data connector.

So I removed all the case screws from the MOBO. Put in two correct small head screws with washers on the top of the board...no power. the PSU had been sitting overnight without the cord in the supply and I hade drained from yesterdays work. On pushing the case switch the PSA Lepa N500 ...it did spin its fan for one second! then off.

I removed all the connections leaving only the Switch connect for the board. 24 pin Mobo connector 8pin cpu connect and Processor fan connector . No dice no power .

I cant put spacers on the case because that added height will not line up ports with the I/O plate. This HP case a has Volcano Nipples in the case that posses threaded holes for the screws and meets the I/O Plate fine!

I know the prosecssor and board work in an identical HP case that would boot ... The current case is a clean ebay purchase.

Ii will attempt to go back to the other case. Any thoughts people?

Thank you Eximo

For your help. I was able to put the MOBO back into a Duplicate HP case, the machine booted and I was able to use the Virgin 350 watt PSU and hook up the Lepr 500 what externally and it powered. They both powered the MOBO and duplicate case not discussed previously.

I am trying to install as a Master Slave second drive. but I would like to use the Problem case as a another machine. Just cant find the short or the Reason why the case is funny. the switch seemed to be somewhat working. I even screw driver jumpered the switch posts.
