Ok, I have heard that either the parts or the games are not compatible with windows 7 OS. I am building this pc. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/D8fsbv
I am wondering if any of these components are not capable with windows 7? Or is it the games that are not able to run 7 but can run 10? I can install either one but I like 7, so if I can do 7 then I think I will pick that one. Windows 10 I have to do all kinds of stuff to make it right for me. I did get my gpu and a couple of other stuff already. On my gpu box it says os supported are 7,8, and 10.

computer management usually sucks at getting the right drivers
manual install is teh best

either use teh driver disc that comes along your mobo, and auto install
(just uncheck/unselect all teh "bloatware" and unnecessary bonus software you dont use)

of go to teh mobo manufacturer site and download and install each driver proper individually
( a slight more hassle, since you need to sift through all the drivers and determine which you need or dont, but depending on your driver disc you might get more updated version of some drivers)

you can install win7 np
and games work perfectly fine on win 7
only some few games use DX12 and that dont work on win 7, that doesnt mean you cant run the game, only that you wont run it in dx12 but in dx11
there are win 10 exclusive games (not because of dx12) but because of microsoft, just like there are PS4/Xbox1 exclusive games
if you can live without those very few "win10 only" exclusive games you are fine on win 7

why people have said windows 7 wont run on your build as the mb chipset is newer then the one on windows 7 installer cd. when you run the windows 7 installer cd on newer hardware it wont see your hard drive as it missing updated drivers. you can make a new windows 7 iso with 7lite program and add all of windows 7 service packs and drivers. or you have to do f6 custom driver install. install all of the mb drivers then let windows 7 install itself another tip download the free windows skin tool call classic shell it free. it make windows 10 look at feel like windows 7.

Ok, so here are the games I was thinking about playing.
1. Farcry 4
2. Skyrim
3. GTA 5
4. Metroid Prime
5. Battlefeild 4
6. Fallout 4
7. Crysis 2

All of these games should be good on OS 7 right? None of them are windows 10 only.
What is np? I am new to gaming so, there is some stuff I do not know. Also what is dx12 and dx11 and what is the difference and advantages. Also, with that driver thing, is there a video I can watch to see how to get one with lite and what is lite?

or just check bios version before installing,
if "newer" bios, win7 will install every bit as smooth as 7 years ago
every legacy option will be on auto/enabled allowing for a regular "normal" win 7 installation
and if the board has the older bios without the legacy stuff enabled, download bios on USB, and update bios before installing win 7 and then again voila win7 will install easy like normal, no hassle

yup perfectly fine, so far i think only Quantum Break is the only "Win10 only" game
np = no problem
dx12 and dx11 are graphic features inside a game, and the difference between the 2 isnt great
its about how teh game is coded, dx12 should enable more/better/different graphic features while allowing slightly better performance over dx11, but truly its not important, and so far, dx12 is far from impressive in games

and dont worry about Lite, just follow your motherboard manufacturers win 7 install guide, much easier

since you have selected an Asus board, just have the latest BIOS for that board pre dowloaded on a USB stick, and then when you boot your new system for the first time check your BIOS version
(you hit Del or F2 and it takes you to bios and you can see)
then when you see what your BIOS version is you either leave it as is or install that latest new bios from teh USB stick
either that or follow teh Asus guide on how to install win 7 on skylake
(will be in teh motherboard manual, but be ready to have/borrow 1 extra external disc drive if installing from cd)

I just installed Win7x64 on a Gigabyte H110M motherboard for someone. I had no issues with it missing any drivers. Why would the H170 be any different? Of course, the OP will want to install drivers from the board's DVD or the website to have the latest.

Ok, so I just need to update my bios, btw I already knew how to update a bios but thanks for putting it out there so others now know. I was actually planning on updating the bios anyways, lol. I have a windows 7 disk I created about a year ago. I have a laptop that is kinda broken but I will get the product key off of that and put that on the gaming rig. The disk I made is the same windows 7 version as on the laptop. So no problems there. I know a program that will detect the product key code and then I will use cmd to deactivate windows on the laptop. Then I will install windows 7 on the gaming rig and put in that product key, easy as pie. I am glad every thing will work.

exactly
by now most motherboards have the necessary bios features either enabled by default or on auto settings it allows for a good old regular win 7 installation hassle free
and subsequent drivers need only be installed after/once have booted into operating system, to fully take advantage of teh system/usb 3

like i said check your bios first, its likely not even necessary that you need to even update it, since this "install win 7 on skylake" issue was fixed months ago by the motherboard manufacturers
so you can install win 7 and then just install the chipset drivers after you booted to windows
(which ofc should be on a disc with your mobo contents, or can be downloaded from teh mobo manufacturer site along all teh proper drivers)

Ok sounds good. I have updated drivers before and I did it by going to computer management and then looking at drivers there. Could I install the drivers that way or not because its a gaming computer? And yes, I know it takes a long time but I do not mind. Also, it automatically installs the latest drivers right?
