Hi I desperately need to upgrade my pc (mainly cpu I think) so I am ready for the total war warhammer launch. I currently have a
Amd fx 4130 quad core 3.8 ghz
16 gb memory ram
GA-78LMT-USB3 motherboard
AMD Radeon r7 200 series 2gb graphics card.
I was thinking of buying the fx8350 and hoping this would do as I have a tight budget and it fits my motherboard but I am a bit clueless in these matters and originally bought this from overclockers as I didn't have the confidence to build one myself. Please help!

Since that game is probably just like the recent other total war series games, you will want a CPU with strong single threaded performance. With your budget, I would look for either a cheap used Haswell i3-4170 and board or if you can swing a little extra get the Skylake i3 with a DDR3 board. Either of those would be much faster than the AMD FX CPUs for Total War. The 260x will probably still be descent enough for good quality at 1080p or less.

Would I be able to to use my current graphics card with a Intel processor and motherboard? Or would I have to buy a new graphics card as well if I made the switch?

Sorry to ask so many questions and thank you for all your help but do you think it's worth going for the Intel Core i5 4690K Processor (3.5 GHz, 6 MB Cache, LGA1150 Socket) and Gigabyte Z97-D3H Intel LGA1150 Z97 ATX Motherboard (4x DDR3, 4x USB3.0, 10x USB2.0, GBE, LAN, HDMI, DVI-I, DSUB) Rev 1.2 instead to try and future proof a little. It's a stretch at about £240 but seems a good option?

The game has been optimized for amd, and the CA dev team said this game is 64bit, which means they have made the game work with more cores rather than just 2 - 4 cores in previous tw games. Also the game will have dx12 support, which works well with multicore processors. I have a 8350 which will work well with dx12.

When you start the game, you will notice the Amd Evolved logo, which means Amd have given them more money than intel for this tw game. The will be better optimized for amd, especially when dx12 comes out, unless you can afford a good i7 which will play anything.

The i5 cpu's are the best for single-core performance, but with Dx12, the old 8350 cpu with beat any i5 on the market. It's going to get very interesting in the next couple of years for Intel and Nvidia, more and more games are implementing Dx12. Your i5 will run games fine for the next couple of years, but keep an eye on the amd cpus running dx12.

You should wait for a 1070 or 1080. Amd are going to release a new cpu and gpu soon, you can wait and see what they bring out, but i doubt they will beat the 1080 price per performance.

This is a good read about dx12. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2015-why-directx-12-is-a-gamechanger

Whether or not your theories about future DX12 games are correct, Total War Warhammer does not run in DX12, and will run better on an i3 than on any AMD processor. AMD Evolved has to do with Radeon driver optimizations, and nothing to do with CPU.

TW:Warhammer doesn't run on Dx12 yet'. It will be running on Dx12 in June - https://www.kitguru.net/gaming/matthew-wilson/creative-assembly-and-amd-team-up-for-total-war-warhammer-dx12/

Dx12 uses all 8 cores on a 8350. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emEEjJtFVL8

Best to just wait for the TW:Warhammer benchmarks, i think you will be surprised how well the old amd cpu do against their double the price rivals.
